This report is the result of a series of focus groups carried out by Rethink with service users and carers. A challenging scenario was put to the service users and carers we approached: What might the future look
like without psychiatric hospitals?
In addition we asked two supplementary questions in order to widen the discussion to include issues at the heart of successful social inclusion and quality of life for both service users and carers: How might services better support people into employment? and what would support a better quality of life for carers? This report presents our findings with the aim of informing and stimulating debate about the future of mental health care.
