If you are a person who has mental health problems you may still have to pay for accommodation, prescriptions and other costs. You may also be able to claim money for help at home and getting about. The welfare benefits system is there for these times. Whether you have recently become ill, have suffered from a mental illness for a length of time, or are caring for someone with a mental illness, it is important to sort out what you are entitled to at your earliest convenience.

Benefits that you may be entitled to include:

  1. Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
  2. Attendance Allowance
  3. Incapacity Benefit
  4. Health Costs
  5. The Social Fund
  6. Income Support.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please note that single copies of individual fact sheets are available free of charge to users of mental health services and their carers, but multiple copies are chargeable to organisations at the rates shown per copy.
